Busy Bees Quilt Guild Opportunity Quilt 2024

Thank you to the guild members for helping pick the pattern for this year’s Opportunity Quilt and to Linda Tripp and Diane Braun for choosing the fabrics to be used. With the help of our diligent guild paper-piecers - Beth Osborne, Sue Hodges, Donna Watson, Cathy Dyer, Deb Wells, Diane Braun and Linda Tripp, the quilt top was done in a timely manner and it was passed along to Larry Bertuccelli to be quilted. He always does a wonderful job and this time was no exception. Thank you to Larry for donating his time and talent. Thank you to Cathy Dyer for donating the backing and Deb Wells for putting the finishing touches on the quilt by sewing the sleeve and binding and attaching the label made by Diane Braun. Now the quilt will be displayed in various locations and tickets will be sold for an Opportunity to make it yours!

A portion of the proceeds from the Opportunity Quilt will be awarded to James Monroe Mission, Fountain Inn Activity Center and Back Pack Blessings.

26 pillowcases were made today by Busy Bees Quilt Guild Philanthropy group to be donated to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital In Greenville. It is estimated the hospital probably goes through a min of 100 pillowcases a month.

We had a lot of fun today sewing with our friends! Special thank you to Cathy Dyer for pillowcase instructions and fabric!

Busy Bees Enjoying a day of Quilt Block Bingo, fun and prizes! January 16, 2024

Busy Bees Members prepared Bingo Quilt blocks prior to the meeting for several games of Bingo fellowship, prizes and fun. Afterwards members chose to donate their blocks to the guild to be made into beautiful, colorful quilts! We collected nearly 80 blocks! Thank you to all who participated! Another fun meeting!!

Busy Bees Sit & Sew Days

January Sit & Sew was creating a Pincushion Thread Catcher. Just look at all of those beautiful, proud faces. The Pincushion Thread Catchers we created today will hang beside our sewing machines in our sewing room, or perhaps a few may appear beside a sewing machine on Sew Day. Please consider joining us for a great group project in the future.

February Sit & Sew was taught by our very own BBQG member, Marylou and we learned how to make Folded Potholders. We had a lot of fun and learned a few new techniques. You might even see some of these beautiful Potholders in our Quilt Show Boutique in October

March Sit & Sew was a day spent learning to make Badge / Cellphone holders. Boy did everyone put on their smiles when they came in today and we had so much fun. So much so, patrons of the library stopped by to say we were having so much fun they wanted to join in. Our project today taught us many new skills such as bias binding, sewing on vinyl and putting in a zipper just to name a few. You might see a few new badge holders at the next BBQG Guild Meeting. We hope you’ll choose to join us at our next Sit & Sew Day on April 25.

Bring your smiles!

Community Philanthropy

On January 16, 2024 A representative from the Fountain Inn Police Department came to our guild meeting for a presentation of quilts for the Fountain Inn Police Cars. The representative shared with our group how the quilts are being used to help the community they serve. As a guild, we voted to continue to provide quilts and needed items to the Simpsonville Police Department, The Fountain Inn Police Department, The Laurens County Police Department, Shriners Children’s Hospital and Piedmont Women and Children’s Center.

Pictured are only a few of the quilts donated to the Fountain Inn Police Department

BBQG Christmas Party 2023

Thank you to all our members who came out to enjoy a festive day of fun with quilting friends. We played games, enjoyed refreshments, gifts and friendship. It was an excellent year for our guild and we are looking forward to a successful year together in 2024, full of opportunities, learning events and giving.

Special Thank You to Cathy Dyer for organizing the games and prizes and to Barbara Gentner and Robyn Christie for the delicious refreshments and guild member gifts.

We would also like to thank all the members who stepped forward in 2023 to volunteer. Thank you for your time, so generous and kind. Thank you for all you do for us, and others too. Thank you for showing up with passion. You’re awesome and we appreciate YOU! It’s because of our volunteers we had a very successful 2023!

Please consider volunteering your time and talent to our guild in 2024

Busy Bees Quilt Guild Philanthropy 2023 - 2024

Congratulations on the good works from the Busy Bees Philanthropy! The Busy Bees Quilt Guild delivered an amazing outpouring of love for our community in 2023. On December 11, 2023 Diane Gange and Joanna McLucas delivered 20 quilts to the Laurens County Sheriff’s deputies to be given to vulnerable individuals and children when responding to calls involving traumatic incidents. A representative of the Fountain Inn Police Department will come to our January 2024 meeting to pick up their quilts. Over 100 quilts were donated this year.

In January our BBQG membership will vote on the recipients of our 2024 Philanthropy work.

We hope more Busy Bees Members will be able to join us for our Philanthropy workdays. The second or third Thursday of the month will be the tentative meeting date. Time and location can be found in the “Events” section. Check back often for updates to the schedule.
