Project: Pillowcases for the children at Shriner’s Children’s Hospital

What to bring: Good working order sewing machine with accessories (feet, foot control and power cord) Extra sewing machine needles, Thread in neutral colors and extra filled bobbins (good time to empty some of your various colored bobbins), fabric scissors, sewing pins, iron and mat (Optional)

***Instructions to make pillowcases and fabric will be supplied by Cathy Dyer

Philanthropy Sew Day - Pillowcases for Shriner’s Children’s Hospital

Date: Wednesday, April 10, 2024

Time: 9:00AM - 12:00PM

Meet at: Location: Simpsonville Library Community Room - (See Supply list below)

You are invited to our Philanthropy work day from 9AM to 12PM at the Simpsonville Library.

We will have a pillowcase workshop from Cathy Dyer. Fabric kits will be provided for the pillowcases.

When you want to make some at home you will use 1/4 to 1/3 yard for the cuff and 3/4 yard for the body of the pillowcase.

Bring your sewing machine, learn the burrito method and lets see how many pillowcases we can make for charity!

Please bring the following items

• Sew machine with accessories (feet, foot control, power cord)

• Extra sewing machine needles (80/12 Universal needles work great)

• Thread in neutral colorant extra filled bobbins (Cathy mixes the colors to use up partial spools)

• Fabric Scissors

• Sewing Pins

• Iron and mat (Optional)

Guild Meeting April 9, 2024

We spent a year participating in the Block of The Month, creating a different block each month and learning a new technique.

Now we get to show them off to each other.

You’re invited to BBQG’s first “Block of The Month Guild Quilt Show”

Quilts must be quilted, bound, have a label and if it will hang in the Mancuso Show, it also must have a hanging sleeve!

If you plan to participate and show your quilt at the meeting please reach out to Laurie Wozniak before Tuesday to let her know so she can send you the information needed!

Guild Meeting March, 2024 - Guest Speaker

Guest Speaker this month will be Emma Jane Powell of “Dream It Quilt It”

After 3 decades of quilting I have narrowed down my style to three staples: vintage, scrappy and repurposed. You will find one or all three of those elements in any of my quilt designs. Seeing my passion for quilting reflected in a student’s work is truly an honor.

In conjunction with Nimble Thimbles and Busy Bees Quilt Guild, Emma will present a workshop on Free Motion Quilting from 12p - 4p on March 11, followed by a lecture at the Nimble Thimbles Monthly meeting, entitled “Works In Progress No More”.

Emma will be our BBQG guest lecturer the following day, on March 12 at 1:00PM. The lecture will be on “Appilleras”, a craft born during the Chilean dictatorship of the 1970’s - 90’s. Learn a little about history, politics and art of South America during this very captivating time.

Guild Meeting February 6, 2024 - NOTE: Date Change for meeting this month

Guest speaker for this month will be Kim Ratchford of “Stitched In Purple”

Owner of “Stitched In Purple”, Kim is an award winning quilter. Kim will be our guest speaker and will present a lecture on “Designing Quilts for Magazines - The Journey of a Quilt” and a trunk show. One of Kim’s favorite parts of the job is working with clients to choose the perfect quilting design for their quilt tops. Designing quilt patterns to showcase your pretty fabrics is another favorite part of the job. Kim’s quilt patterns have been featured in several popular quilt magazines. She enjoys sharing her knowledge of everything Quilty.

Sit & Sew - Pincushion Thread Catcher

Program: Pincushion Thread Catcher with Robyn and / or Open Sew your own project
We will be making a Pincushion Thread Catcher to sit beside your sewing machine for all your scraps and loose threads. You may work on your own projects if you choose to not make the Thread Catcher.

Come have fun, visit and learn to make something new.

Business Mtg, Vote on 2024 Budget, 2024 Philanthropy projects and introduction to 2024 BOM . After business mtg, Guild will play Quilt Bingo with your already prepared quilt blocks, with button markers to win prizes. Afterwards, Blocks may be donated to the guild, and will be made into quilts for philanthropy. Come join us for an afternoon of fun!
